newzealand_rockclimber.jpgFAQs

Before you go:

  1. Suppose I have to cancel?
The policy provides cover if you have to cancel your trip due to your illness, death or injury or that of close relative of yours or a travelling companion.

  2. If I have an existing medical condition e.g. Diabetes, Epilepsy or other recurring conditions, am I covered for this?
    Please contact HealthCheck on 0818 48 48 49.

  3. I am thinking of going scuba diving, white water rafting and skiing, am I covered?
Some hazardous activities are covered under the Silver option but if you want the highest level of cover for hazardous activities please ensure that you purchase the Gold option. Check with your local USIT office to make sure you are covered for that adrenaline rush!

While you're travelling:

    an accident?newzealand_jetboating_shotoverriver2.jpg
Each of the three options available to you on the USIT policy provide medical cover with limits ranging from €2,000,000 to €10,000,000 depending on which of the levels of cover you have chosen.

  2. Am I covered for dental treatment?
If you need emergency dental treatment while you are abroad, there is cover for this. The policy has cover for emergency dental treatment for relief of pain only, up to €250. The cover for this treatment does not allow the use of precious metals e.g. crowns, Bridgework etc.

  3. Am I covered if I lose my baggage?
Your baggage is covered under both the Silver & Gold options. The policy requires that you exercise reasonable care of your property and you should never leave it unattended or in the possession of any other person not known to you. If your property is stolen, you must report it to the local police, as a copy of the police report is required to make a claim. Receipts for articles lost or stolen are always required.

  4. Is money covered?newzealand_mountainbiking_southalps2.jpg
There is no cover for cash so we recommend that you take Travellers Cheques and carry the minimum amount of cash on you at all times. Don't forget to keep the receipt of the Travellers Cheques you are carrying and keep it separate from the cheques themselves.

  5. What happens if I lose my prepaid tickets e.g.
    Inter-Rail, Amtrak or Greyhound ticket?
There is cover for lost or stolen prepaid tickets under both the Silver & Gold options. The cover extends to the cost of purchasing a similar replacement ticket or a ticket to return to Ireland or the UK.

  6. What happens if I have to cut my trip short?
It really depends on the reason. If you are homesick and want to return early then this will not be covered. If you have to cut short your trip due to a severe injury or illness to yourself or an immediate relative, then the policy will pay any additional costs you incur to return to Ireland or the UK. If you fail an exam and have to re-sit you are also covered to curtail your trip provided you have purchased exam failure cover.

  7. If I return for an insured reason can I resume my trip?
Exclusive to Gold option; cover is available if you curtail your trip for an insured reason and you then wish to resume it. The policy will pay up to €500 to allow you to resume your journey.

Please note: You will find a comprehensive Questions & Answers list contained in your policy. These questions & answers are prepared for your guidance only and do not form part of the policy terms and conditions. You should read the full policy terms & conditions to familiarise yourself with the cover. In the event of there being any discrepancy between information contained in the questions & answers and the policy document itself, the wording of the policy document shall take precedence.
