Ireland in Europe Summer School
Course Dates: 12 -25 July 2009This two week summer course is designed for adults interested in an in-depth exploration of Irish Studies. The background of participants on the programme is widely variable, from university students to retired professionals, coming from many different countries.
Irish culture and its place in a wider Europe are the focus of this two-week summer school at Trinity College, Dublin. It will endeavour, by examining important cultural developments, to offer you a sense the country past and present as it takes its role in a new integrated Europe. The programme will consist of a series of seminars together with field trips and cultural activities, which will offer a comprehensive view of contemporary Ireland. Location: The summer school classes will be held at Trinity College, Ireland's oldest university, founded in 1592, and home of the Book of Kells. Apart from its historical importance, the college with its cobbled courtyard and squares, located in the centre of the capital city, is an appropriate place to embark on a course of Irish Studies. Travel:Participants should make their own travel arrangements to Ireland. On arrival, all participants receive a two-week travel pass for Dublin's bus and rail system. The programme will also provide assistance and suggestions for weekend and extended travel while in Ireland. Eligibility:This international summer course is open to all and traditionally a broad age range is represented. It should be noted however that the language of instruction is English and there are no interpreter facilities provided.
