FacultyThe Summer School at Trinity College is noted for its high powered teaching staff and visiting speakers. Members of Trinity College faculty and distinguished authorities from other academic institutions form the core of the Summer School team.
The calibre of the academic faculty is complemented by the inclusion of leading activists and critics to provide a lively intellectual community and challenging environment for which the Summer School at Trinity College is known world-wide.
In addition to the daily lectures, Ireland's most distinguished poets, playwrights, politicians, statesmen and women and renowned figures in society form the panel of speakers for the evening Guest Speaker Seminar series. A regular contributor to this series is Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, and past speakers have included former UN Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson, SDLP leader and recent Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume and Oscar nominated film director Jim Sheridan.
During the week in Belfast, outstanding faculty from Queen's University and notable academics from other universities in Northern Ireland teach the daily classes and seminars.
The course modules will concentrate on Northern Ireland topics, as will all evening events and speakers. Last year the evening speakers included Northern Irish writer Medbh McGuckian, as well as political figures, Philip McGuigan of Sinn Fein, Alban Maginness of the SDLP and Esmond Birnie of the UUP.
